Creative Exploration
To me, art is about so much more than what one percieves. It is about the process, craft, collaboration, and emotion that is put into it. As a designer, radio dj, and collaborator, I wanted to capture my journey as a designer and organizer while highlighting other creatives in my life. I invited some of my fellow creatives to my radio show to express their creative interests and collaborate with me on different playlists that emulated their work and personalities.
For my first show, I dedicated this playlist to my high school self figuring out what path to take in my life. I was battling between my passions for art and dedication to bettering humanity through political action. It wasn't until I was a senior in high school when I found Seattle University's Arts Leadership program and realized I could be both artistic and humanity driven!
For this show I collaborated with my friend Logan who is a journalist and chef. I began the show with the intent of showcasing music surrounding formative experiences in my life alongside requests from listeners. Aside from my formative music experiences, we discussed the journey of being a journalist in Seattle and how music fell into the importance of this.
Spring has sprung in Seattle! Instead of focusing on my past and former journey in my creative process, I wanted to focus on the present. Creating a comforting and spring filled playlist show theme allowed me to really get the creative juices flowing. I started working on my portfolio website and creating art in freeform.
Disco and Upbeat Alt have taken over. Growing up, ABBA was a huge influence on my outlook on the world and was how I connected to my family. The upbeat energy and tender lyrics have always had a special place in my heart. I dedicated this show to my inner child and wanted to allow listeners to get up and dance like no one was watching.
For this playlist I wanted to share some songs that have been getting me through this last quarter of college. It takes a journey from some eerie ballads about connection with others, to songs I shout and dance to on my roof, to upbeat anthems about isolation. These songs capture the ups and downs of an average day in my life that I feel many listeners can relate to. The irony of how the sound combats the lyrics reflect our human experience.
Today I curated a playlist of music I have been very intrigued by in recent times. I invited film connoisseur, mathematician, and music lover, Jackson to my show to discuss how his passions blend together. It was very intriguing to learn how different fields can come together and make something beautiful. I also better understood the art of math and how it could be seen as an art. I appreciated this new perspective.
